Bill was previously Event Manager and Venue Manager with Mecca Leisure. He then went on to work in the holiday industry in Tenerife and after 12 years abroad he came to Cambridge where he ran the Rose and Crown on Newmarket Road.

In 2003 he took over the Square & Compasses where he maintains the ethos from the old days, to provide traditional pub grub, have a friendly atmosphere and recognise that the most important person is the customer.

In 2014 he took over The Plough and made it into what it is today.

The plough

Liam has been managing The Plough since Bill took the pub over 2014. Before then, Liam had been working for Bill at both the Square & Compasses and The Queens Head in Harston since 2011.

Liam's personality can be seen throughout The Plough, plenty of sport, everyone's welcome and everyone is to have a good time.

When he's not watching Arsenal thanks to the 2 big screens in the pub, he's probably practising he's pool skills ready for the next league match.

Bill is supported by many loyal part time team members who are now part of the furniture. Heading up week days and always smiling you will be greeted by Abi, Lauren & Sian, with Gen in the kitchen whipping up delicious lunches. Weekends at the Square & Compasses would not be the same without Ali leading the way behind the bar.

Look out for the new patio area to be completed in August.

p.s. Any golfers out there looking to practice their swing are more thank welcome to use the practice bay that is winging it's way towards the back garden.
